Overview

Route map: your A→B plan on the canvas

After geocoding, the route map draws the Mapbox Directions geometry for the profile you chose—driving, cycling or walking—with summary text in the sidebar. Use it to sanity-check distance and shape before you follow local signs and traffic rules on the road.

  • Same A/B inputs and mode switch as the planner; submit updates the line in place.
  • Destination-focused city articles may load when data is available for context.
  • URLs encode from, to and mode so you can bookmark or share a rough plan.
  • This is planning software, not a live traffic or lane guidance product.

Workflow

Getting the most from the route view

Short checklist once the blue line appears.

01

Verify endpoints

Confirm A and B pins match the doors or parking areas you care about; adjust text if the geocoder snapped nearby.

02

Compare modes

Switch driving, cycling and walking to see how the graph changes before you commit to one profile.

03

Cross-check visually

Open Satellite or Streets in another tab for complex junctions the polyline simplifies.

04

Share carefully

Copy the URL for colleagues, remembering that closures and detours still require local verification.

Does the route line update with live traffic?
This tool is for planning. For time-sensitive driving, confirm conditions with a local traffic source or in-car navigation right before departure.
Cycling directions look unsafe—why?
Cycling graph quality varies by region. Treat the route as a suggestion and verify with local bike maps and signage.
Can I reverse A and B on the route map?
Edit the A and B inputs and submit again. Some pages do not provide a dedicated swap button.
What if the route crosses a toll road or ferry?
Routing data may include those edges when available. Always confirm schedules, tolls, and restrictions yourself.
Is voice turn-by-turn guidance available?
No. WorldMaps3D does not provide voice navigation. Use a dedicated navigation app when you are actively driving.
Reference

Safe use of the route map

The polyline is computed from digital road graphs that can omit fresh closures, construction or temporary one-way orders. Never interact with the map while operating a vehicle. Set up the plan before you move, then follow posted signs and local laws.

Data sources

Geocoding uses the same nominatim-style service described on other pages; routing uses Mapbox Directions. Elevation, toll class and vehicle dimensions are not modeled here.

When to escalate tools

For dispatch, HOS compliance or hazmat routing, use a certified logistics platform. WorldMaps3D remains a consumer-grade preview.
